Our Experience
I want to share a quick follow up on my son’s experience with AviClear, the latest FDA-approved treatment for acne. You can read the initial post about our AviClear experience here.
My son started his three treatment series in October, finishing in December. He was told that he might experience breakouts after each treatment, which he did. However, the breakouts were very different. They were not the typical larger, cystic pimples that stick around and leave post inflammation and hyper-pigmented skin (red spots). Instead, they were very small white heads that healed quickly.
I am amazed and thrilled with the results that AviClear achieved in such a short time. I would say my son’s skin is 80% clear. He is 20 years old and still seems to get slight breakouts in his beard area and forehead, but they are very small and heal much faster. I recommend using products that focus on calming inflammation, creating a strong barrier, and hydrating the skin post laser. If you or your child has been using products that dry the skin to address overactive oil production, those products should be replaced with more hydrating products. The Pros and Cons of AviClear
Here is my quick list of pros and cons for AviClear:
Cons:
Cost: The cost of the series is $3600. (However, when you compare the cost to Accutane, it is actually pretty comparable. Accutane runs about $500/month and most are put on a 6-month to 1-year protocol, at least.)
Pain: It is not pain free. However, it is quick! My son used numbing cream for about 45 minutes and took three Advil to take the edge off. It is a laser, so it is hot and snaps! But, once the treatment is finished there is no pain. I have heard from one client whose son has started the treatment that the pain was quite intense for him. So, go in knowing it is not fun, but it is fast and the results are worth it!
Pros:
Effectiveness: It effectively treats acne. It resolves current acne and helps prevent future acne!
No side effects: There are zero negative side effects on the body (see the initial blog post on AviClear to compare other treatment options and the side effects).
Duration: The protocol is quick! It only take three months. Protocol is one month between each of the three treatments.

It is also worth noting that despite the fact that his mama is an esthetician who gives him the best of the best products, he does not use any of them! So all the results we are seeing are from the AviClear Laser. I do recommend using products that focus on calming inflammation, creating a strong barrier, and hydrating the skin post laser. If you or your child has been using products that dry the skin to address overactive oil production, those products should be replaced with more hydrating products. Can return to regular schedule after treatment: When we left the treatment, my son was a little bit red, but barely. You really could not tell anything was done. Everyone responds differently to lasers so you might experience redness and swelling post treatment, but by the next day it should be calm.
Summary
Our experience was very positive. I can recommend this treatment with full confidence for anyone that has struggled with acne and has not been able to achieve clear skin. I love that you are able to get long-term results with zero negative side effects on the body.
